Dear :

Please take a few minutes to read this update on the recent and upcoming efforts of the APA's Safety & Education Foundation, activities and resources made possible through the generous donations of our supporters. Click here to add your support.

Foundation Leaders Brief CPSC Chair Hoehn-Saric
On May 12, representatives of the APA's Safety and Education Foundation (APSEF) met with Alexander Hoehn-Saric, Chairman of the Consumer Production Safety Commission (CPSC). Foundation advocate and former CPSC Chair Inez Tenenbaum led the delegation along with Executive Director Julie Heckman and  Board Members Jesse Dragiou, Phantom Fireworks, Herb Chan, United Pyrotechnics.

The group was well received and held a productive briefing for Chairman Hoehn-Saric and his staff. Participants highlighted the various Foundation-backed safety initiatives as well as provided an overview of future activities. CPSC staff was very engaged, providing Foundation leaders with new insights on how to build upon current programs. We are most grateful to Directors Dragiou and Chan for traveling to Washington, D.C. for this important meeting.

NEW Fireworks Safety Coloring Activity Books

We are excited to announce the creation of a new safety awareness resource - a children's Fireworks Safety Coloring Activity book. This fun-filled and informative 16 paged activity book allows kids to learn about the safe and proper use of fireworks; information they can share with their parents and other adults in their lives. The books feature Professor Sparkz and have been designed to compliment the curriculum kits, videos and other resources currently available on the Foundation's website www.celebratesafely.org.

We're pleased that a number of companies as well as the AFSL have already committed to co-branding these activity books to distribute them in their retail outlets this 4th of July season. Companies wishing quantities for their retail establishment may order them through Pyro Novelties at this link. This is their wholesale store that requires a minimum order of $500 to purchase online.

If you want to purchase just one case of books, please call 800-552-3499 and they will process your order manually. If you want to purchase just a few copies for yourself, your children and/or grandchildren, individual copies are available at this link

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to Foundation Board Member Katherine Guccione, Pyro Novelties, the brainchild of the book, for  spearheading the design, production and distribution of this awesome safety resource. Pyro Novelties is generously donating a portion of book proceeds to the Foundation and we know their true value will be raising fireworks safety awareness.

Happy Campers
Understanding how much children will enjoy and learn from our new Fireworks Safety Coloring Activity Books, the Foundation Board has agreed to support its distribution beyond retail outlets. We are thrilled that these books will be made available free of charge to summer camps and we  welcome your suggestions if you know of a worthwhile organization. This is just another way that APA's Foundation is pro-actively spreading the message of fireworks safety.

Partners to Promote Safety
Last July 4th season, the APA's Safety & Education Foundation partnered with the Burn Prevention Network to launch a consumer fireworks safety campaign in the state of Pennsylvania. The Celebrate Safely PA! The collaboration also included PA State Senator Pat Browne and Fire Commissioner Bruce Trego. The campaign's goal was to raise awareness about fireworks safety and ultimately reduce the number of fireworks-related injuries in the state. Point-of-sale safety flyers were developed and a robust media campaign was orchestrated. We are pleased that this successful partnership will continue in 2022 and it we hope to broaden distribution of Foundation resources by cultivating relationships with educational and safety organizations, as well as exhibiting at conferences and publicizing via trade publications. This project is an important example of how public/private partnerships can be used to help further mutual safety goals.

Remember These Safety Resources
As companies undertake their pre-season planning, don't forget these Foundation resources which can either be printed for distribution or included in your in store video feeds.
