If your state allows the use of consumer fireworks, remember that even legal fireworks can cause injury if they’re not used properly.  Follow these rules to celebrate safely:

 Obey Local Laws: Ensure that you are aware of, and comply with, your local laws regarding the purchase and use of fireworks.

  Buy from Reliable Sources: Purchase fireworks only from reputable and licensed sellers. Avoid buying illegal or homemade fireworks.

  Read and Follow Instructions: Carefully read and follow the instructions on each firework. Pay attention to recommended safety distances and guidelines.

 Use Open Space: Light fireworks in a clear, open area away from buildings, trees, and flammable materials. Ensure there is plenty of space for the fireworks to launch and fall safely.

 Keep Water Handy: Have a bucket of water, hose or fire extinguisher nearby to quickly extinguish any potential fires. Also, consider having a first aid kit on hand. 

 Designate a Sober Adult: Choose one responsible, sober adult to handle the fireworks. This person should not consume alcohol or drugs while lighting fireworks.

 Supervise Children: Children should never handle fireworks. Ensure that they are supervised at all time and main a safe distance from the fireworks. 

 Safe Distance: All spectators should remain a safe distance way from where the firework is being lit. 

 Dispose Properly: Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water before placing them in a metal trash bin away from structures. Warning: Do not throw them in the trash while they are still hot. 

 Pets and Wildlife: Keep pets indoors and away from the fireworks to prevent them from becoming frightened or injured. Steer clear of using fireworks near wildlife habitats.

  Check Local Conditions: Be mindful of weather conditions. Strong winds can affect the trajectory of fireworks, increasing the risk of accidents.

 Emergency Preparedness: Know the local emergency services contact number and be prepared to use it if necessary.

 Never Experiment: Do not attempt to make your own fireworks or modify exisitng ones. Follow manufacturer's instructions strictly.
